چکیده
Arcachon Bay, in the southern Bay of Biscay, is first French production area Manila clam (Ruditapes philippinarum) with an annual commercial fisheries around 400 tons recent years. This bivalve mollusc was introduced into bay 1980s for aquaculture purpose and quickly succeeded natural settlement so that its high market value led to progressive establishment a perennial fishery from mid-1990s. Local management plans applied this species are based on licensing system commercial, protected areas days prohibited fishing both recreational fishermen. A minimum catch size also prescribed by European regulation, growth rates important matter context. work focuses studying shell recapture shells, previously marked using chemical marker (calcein) then grown conditions, performed order determine patterns. clams were immersion situ seawater containing calcein. In study limitations calcein mark readability manila mortality, various exposure times, 30 minutes 1 hour, concentrations, 50 mg.L-1 200 tested. After period 35 days, 69 micro-increments observed, and, it found increment deposition occurs tidal periodicity. Moreover, showed method fast-marking clams, potentially other species, feasible situ.

Dispersal, recurrence and settlement of Manila clam, Ruditapes philippinarum
The majority of the marine benthos is pelagic in their larval stage. The Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum, is widely distributed on sandy tidal flats across Japan and a commercially important shellfish. The clam has a planktonic larval stage, which lasts 2 to 3 weeks after hatching. In this stage, the most clam larvae are able to disperse over wide areas with the currents and then settle on ...
متن کاملDietary effects of the red-tide raphidophyte Heterosigma akashiwo on growth of juvenile Manila clams, Ruditapes philippinarum
We studied the effects of Heterosigma akashiwo, a harmful algal species, in the diet of juvenile Manila clams (Ruditapes philippinarum), because it often blooms in coastal waters where aquaculture of the clams is carried out. Weight of soft tissue of clams increased when they were fed H. akashiwo added at 8,000 cells mL-1, with weight growth about 8% higher than that of clams fed only Chaetocer...
متن کاملHemocyte responses of Manila clams, Ruditapes philippinarum, with varying parasite, Perkinsus olseni, severity to toxic-algal exposures.
This study assessed the possible combined effects of harmful algae and parasite infection on hemocyte and hemolymph parameters of a bivalve mollusc. Manila clams Ruditapes philippinarum, were exposed for 1 week, under controlled laboratory conditions, to bloom concentrations of two cultured dinoflagellates: Karenia selliformis, and Karenia mikimotoi, with demonstrated, sub-lethal, pathological ...

The Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum was introduced for aquacultural purposes to Europe in the 1970s. In 1987, brown ring disease (BRD), caused by Vibrio tapetis, appeared in clams cultivated in Brouënou (Finistère, France) and later became increasingly widespread and was reported in cultivated and wild clams existing on the Atlantic coasts of France and Spain. The present study reports, for...
متن کاملPhysiological responses of Manila clams Venerupis (=Ruditapes) philippinarum with varying parasite Perkinsus olseni burden to toxic algal Alexandrium ostenfeldii exposure.
Manila clam stock from Arcachon Bay, France, is declining, as is commercial harvest. To understand the role of environmental biotic interactions in this decrease, effects of a toxic dinoflagellate, Alexandrium ostenfeldii, which blooms regularly in Arcachon bay, and the interaction with perkinsosis on clam physiology were investigated. Manila clams from Arcachon Bay, with variable natural level...
